Squares Crossing

Four simple squares cross paths creating an elegant crochet square perfect for a blanket, afghan or pillow cover. The squares are created with front post treble crochet stitches.

Materials
Worsted (4) yarn
Yardage: Approximately 55 yards 4-5 mm hook
Scissors
Needle

Abbreviations
FDC:             Foundation Double Crochet
St(s):             Stitch(es)
Sl st:             Slip Stitch
Ch:                Chain
SC:                Single Crochet
DC:               Double Crochet
TrFP:            Front Post Treble Crochet
YO:               Yarn Over

Written in US crochet terms
Finished Size: 8” x 8”
Gauge: 16 DC x 10 rows = 4”

Before You Start
Worked in rows.
Ch 1 does not count as a stitch.
Ch 3 counts as a stitch.
All TrFP will be worked two rows below the current row.
Stitches within brackets ( ) to be completed by number of times designated after the brackets.
 
Special Stitches
Front Post Treble Crochet: YO twice, insert hook from right to left around post, YO, pull through 2 loops, YO, pull through 2 loops, YO, pull through final 2 loops

Pattern Instructions

Row 1: FDC 32, turn (32 DC).

Row 2: Ch 3, DC in each sts across, turn (32 DC).

Row 3: Repeat row 2 (32 DC).

Row 4: Ch 3, DC next st, (TrFP next st, DC next st) 5 times, TrFP next st, DC next 6 sts, (TrFP next st, DC next st) 5 times, TrFP next st, DC last 2 sts, turn (22 DC, 10 TRFP).

Row 5: Repeat row 2 (32 DC).

Row 6: Ch 3, DC next 2 sts, (TrFP next st, DC next st) 4 times, TrFP next st, DC next 8 sts, (TrFP next st, DC next st) 4 times, TrFP next st, DC last 3 sts, turn (24 DC, 8 TrFP).

Row 7: Repeat row 2 (32 DC).

Row 8: Repeat row 4 (22 DC, 10 TrFP).

Rows 9-13: Repeat row 2 [5 rows] (32 DC).

Row 14: Repeat row 4 (22 DC, 10 TrFP).

Row 15: Repeat row 2 (32 DC).

Row 16: Repeat row 6 (24 DC, 8 TrFP).

Row 17: Repeat row 2 (32 DC).

Row 18: Repeat row 4 (22 DC, 10 TrFP).

Row 19: Repeat row 2 (32 DC)..

Row 20: Ch 3, DC in each st across.  Do not turn. Do not fasten off. (32 DC).

Border

Ch 1, SC in end of each row down the side, rotate work clockwise, 3 SC in 1st st, SC in next 30 sts, 3 SC in last st, rotate work clockwise, SC in end of each row up the side, rotate work clockwise, 3 SC in 1st st, Sc in next 30, 3 SC in last st, join with sl st to 1st SC of border round.

Fasten off and Weave in ends.
