The Teddy Snuggler is a fun amigurumi lovey mashup for your little ones to snuggle with. It is created using velvet bulky yarn which is soft to the touch and extra snuggly.

The Teddy Snuggler is 19” long x 11” wide.

This pattern is written here using US crochet terms.

Skill Level

Recommended Yarn

Any bulky #5 weight yarn approx.

Yarn used: Bernat Velvet, 200 yards.

This is a lovely acrylic yarn that is very soft. I used it because I already had it in my stash and knew it was a great yarn for a snuggly teddy.

Hooks & Other Materials

  • US Size J/10 or 6 mm hook
  • Safety eyes x2
  • Safety nose x1
  • Yarn Needle
  • Stitch Marker
  • Scissors

Size is approximate and may be slightly different based on ability to meet gauge. 19″ long x 11″ wide.

Abbreviations

MC – Magic Circle
Rd(s) – Round(s)
Ch – Chain

Notes

  1. Head, ears, arms and legs worked in continuous rounds.
  2. Snuggler worked in unturned, joined rounds.
  3. Ch 1 does not count as a stitch.

Instructions

Ears (make 2) [Do not stuff]

Rd 1: 5 sc into MC (5).

Rd 2: Inc x 5 around (10).

Rd 3: (sc, inc) x 5 around (15).

Rd 4-5: Sc in each st around (15).

Rd 6: (sc, dec) x 5 around (10).

Fasten off.

Leave a long tail for attaching to head.

Snout (make 1) [Do not stuff]

Ch 5

Rd 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 2 chs, 2 sc next ch, turn, working on opposite side, sc next 3 chs, 2 sc last ch, join with sl st to 1st sc (10).

Rd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st around (20).

Rd 3: Ch 1, sc in each st around (20).

*Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing onto head.

*Embroider or attach safety nose between rounds 1 and 2 of snout.

Arms (make 2)

Rd 1: With black, 5 sc in MC (5).

Rd 2: Inc in each st around (10).

Rd 3-8: Change to main color, sc in each st around (10)

Rd 9: (dec, sc next 3) twice (8).

Rd 10-12: Sc in each st around (8).

Stuff arm and pinch the opening flat and work 4 sc across to close, ending with a sl st to fasten off.

Leave a long tail for attaching to snuggler body.

Legs (make 2)

Rd 1: With black, 6 sc into MC (6).

Rd 2: Inc x 6 around (12).

Rds 3-6: Change to main color, sc in each st around [4 rounds] (12).

Rd 7: (Sc next 5, dec) x 2 (10).

Rds 8-11: Sc in each st around (10).

Row 12: Sc next 6, ch 1, turn (6).

Row 13: Sc next 6, ch 1, turn (6).

Row 14: Sc next st, dec x 2), sc last st (4).

Rd 15: Sc on side of ankle flap just made, sc next 6 sts, sc on other side of ankle flap, sc last 4 sts (12).

Rds 16-20: Sc in each st around [5 rounds] (12).

Fasten off.   Stuff paw and lightly stuff upper leg.

Continue to Head and Snuggler Body.

Head

Rd 1: 8 sc in MC (8).

Rd 2: Inc x 8 around (16).

Rd 3: (Sc, inc) x 8 around (24).

Rd 4: (2 sc, inc) x 8 around (32).

Rd 5: (3 sc, inc) x 8 around (40).

Rd 6-14: Sc in each st around (40).

Rd 15: (3 sc, dec) x 8 around (32).

Rd 16: Sc around (32).

*Place eyes between rounds 10 & 11, about 8 sts apart.

*Begin stuffing head.

Rd 17: (2 sc, dec) x 8 around (24).

Rd 18: Sc around (24)

Rd 19: (sc, dec) x 8 around (16)

*Add remaining stuffing as you work the next two rounds.

Rd 20: Sc around (16)

Rd 21: dec x 8 (8)

Do not fasten off.   Continue to Snuggler Instructions.

*Using a needle, attach the snout just below the eyes by weaving up and down around the last round.  Add a small amount of stuffing as you sew the snout on.

*Sew the ears with a whipstitch to the head, counting from the center of the head three rounds down, between rounds 4-8.

Snuggler

Begin working snuggler from round 21 of head. 

Snuggler body worked in joined rounds.

Rd 1: Ch 1, (hdc, hdc inc) x 4 around, join (12).

Rd 2: Ch 1, (hdc, hdc inc) x 6 around, join (18).

Rd 3: Ch 1, (2 hdc, hdc inc) x 6 around, join (24).

Rd 4: Ch 1, (3 hdc, hdc inc) x 6 around, join (30).

Rd 5: Ch 1, (4 hdc, hdc inc ) x 6 around, join (36).

Rd 6: Ch 1, (5 hdc, hdc inc) x 6 around, join (42).

Rd 7: Ch 1, (6 hdc, hdc inc) x 6 around, join (48).

Rd 8: Ch 1, hdc in each st around, join (48).

Rd 9: Ch 1, (6 hdc, hdc dec) x 6 around, join (42).

Rd 10: Ch 1, hdc in each st around, join (42).

Rd 11: Ch 1, (5 hdc, hdc dec) x 6 around, join (36).

Rd 12: Ch 1, hdc in each st around, join (36).

Rd 13: Ch 1, (4 hdc, hdc dec) x 6 around, join (30).

Rd 14: Ch 1, hdc in each st around, join (30).

Do not fasten off. 

You will attach legs while closing the bottom of the snuggler body.

Place leg next to the sts of the body, (insert hook through all 3 sts, pull up sl st); repeat five times.

Sl st the opening between the legs closed (3 sts).

Place the second leg next to the sts of the body, (insert hook through all 3 sts, pull up sl st); repeat five times.

Using long tails, attach arms at the front of the snuggler body using a whipstitch method in the second rounds of hdc stitches, counting from the head down.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Congratulations, your Teddy Snuggler is complete!
