
The Harlequin Clutch is a fun crochet project that can be made in any two #4 worsted weight yarns. My Harlequin Clutch is by Lego’s Harley Quinn. It can hold a small tablet or gaming device and is the perfect gift for your fellow geek or gamer.

Recommended Yarn
Worsted #4 weight cotton yarn, approx. 150 yards.

Special Stitches/Techniques
DC3tog – [yo, insert hook in next st, yo, pull up loop, yo, draw through 2 loops] 3 times (4 loops on hook), yo, draw through all loops on hook.
DC6tog – [yo, insert hook in next st, yo, pull up loop, yo, draw through 2 loops] 6 times (7 loops on hook), yarn over, draw through all loops on hook.

HARLEQUIN CLUTCH PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS
Main Body
Ch 49
Row 1 (A): (3 DC, ch 1, 3 DC) in 5th ch, skip 3 ch, 1 sc next ch, *skip 3, (3 DC, ch 1, 3 DC) next ch, skip 3 ch, 1 sc next ch, repeat from * to end. Change to B, turn. (36 DC, 6 ch-1, 5 sc)
Row 2 (B): Ch 3, skip 1st sc, DC3tog over next 3 DC, *7 ch, skip sc, DC6tog over next 6 DC (leave sc unworked), repeat from & ending DC3tog over last 3 DC, 1 DC in top of ch, turn. (2 dc3tog, 5 dc6tog, 2 dc)
Row 3 (B): Ch 3, skip 1st DC, 3 DC top of DC3tog, * 1 sc in ch 1 sp between 3 DC sts 1 row below (enclosing 7 ch), [3DC, ch 1, 3 DC] top of DC6tog, repeat from * ending 3 DC top of DC 3 tog, 1 DC in 3rd ch of ch 3. Change to A, turn. Fasten off B. (38 dc, 6 ch-1, 6 sc)
Row 4 (A): Ch 1, 1 sc in 1st DC, *ch 3, DC6tog, ch 3, sc in ch 1 space, repeat from * to ending with 1 sc in 3rd of 3 ch, turn. (36 dc, 8 sc)
Row 5 (A): Ch 1, sc in 1st stitch and evenly across, turn. (49 sc)

Row 9 (A): Ch 1, sc in 1st st, skip 3 sts, (3 DC, ch 1, 3 DC), skip 3 sts, 1 sc next st, *skip 3 sts, (3 DC, ch 1, 3 DC) next st, skip 3 sts, ch 1, sc next st, repeat from * to end. Change to B, turn. (36 DC, 6 ch-1, 5 sc)
Repeat rows 2-9 twice.
Repeat rows 2-8 once.
Edge Rows
Edge row 1 (A): Ch 1, sc in 1st st, skip 3 sts, (3 DC, ch 1, 3 DC), skip 3 sts, 1 sc next st, *skip 3 sts, (3 DC, ch 1, 3 DC) next st, skip 3 sts, ch 1, sc next st, repeat from * to end. Change to B, turn. (36 DC, 6 ch-1, 5 sc)

Edge row 3 (B): Ch 1, sc in 1st st and next 10 sc sts, ch 5, sl st in same st, sc 16 sts, ch 5, sl st in same st, sc 16 Sts, ch 5, sl st in same st, sc 9 sts. (49 sc, 3 ch-5 loops)
[sc in sc st, sc in ch-3, sc around ch-3 in previous row, sc in ch-3, sc in center of dc6tog, sc in the side of dc st, sc in base of dc st, sc around ch-3 in previous row, sc in sc st, detail stitches to use] repeat across.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
*Blocking is strongly encouraged.
Lay flat and block to 10 inches wide and approximately 13 inches long.
Assembly
Fold with right side facing aligning the harlequin repeats with one another and leaving the edge rows free. Using stitch markers to secure the sides for seaming.
Using a needle and either colored yarn, whip stitch the sides together, ensuring that the patterns remain aligned and any carried yarn remains inside the bag. Repeat for the other side of the bag.
Fasten off. Weave in ends. Turn bag right side out.
Using stitch markers, mark the base of the 1st, 3rd and 5th full black harlequin design.
Sew buttons on the center of the 1st, 3rd and 5th full black harlequin design.
