Rosa Mandala

The Rosa Mandala pattern features a variety of textured stitches, creating a visually rich and layered effect. Use one or multiple colors to make this mandala unique!

Skill Level

Intermediate. Uses simple, common stitches and techniques. Special Instructions are given for the puff, hdc cluster and crab stitch.

Recommended Yarn

Worsted #4 weight cotton yarn, approx. 150 yards.

Hooks & Other Materials

  • US Size I/9 or 4.5 mm hook and #4 worsted weight yarn
  • Yarn Needle
  • Stitch Marker
  • Scissors

Size is approximately 13″ diameter and may vary slightly based on your crochet tension.

Notes

  1. The pattern is worked in joined rounds.
  2. Work rounds 5, 10 and 15 on the wrong side.
  3. Sc rounds worked in each stitch and ch-1 stitch.
  4. Change colors when joining at the end of each round
  5. Ch 1 does count as a stitch.

Gauge

8 stitches and 3 rounds = 2″

Special Stitches/Techniques

Puff: Yo, (insert hook, yo, pull up a loop) three times, yo, pull through all 7 loops on hook.

HDC Cluster – Yo, insert hook, Yo, pull up a loop. Yo, insert hook into next ch/st, Yo and pull up a loop. Yo and pull through all five loops on your hook.

Crab Stitch – Insert hook, yo, pull up a loop, rotate your hook clockwise in a scooping motion, yo, pull through both loops.

ROSA MANDALA PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS

Start with an MR or ch 3 and join the 1st ch to make a circle.

Rd 1: Ch 2, 8 DC in MC, join. (8 dc)

Rd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st around, join. (16 sc)

Rd 3: Ch 1, (puff, ch 1,); repeat around, join. (16 puffs, 16 ch-1)

Rd 4: Ch 1, (sc in puff st, sc next ch-1); repeat around, join. (32 sc)

Rd 5: [WS] Ch 1, turn, (hdc cluster flo, ch 1); repeat around, join. (32 flo hdc clusters, 32 ch-1)

Rd 6: [RS] Ch 1, turn, (hdc cluster in ch sps, ch 1); repeat around, join. (32 hdc clusters, 32 ch-1)

Rd 7: Ch 1, (sc into hdc cluster, sc into ch-1); repeat around, join. (64 sc)

Rd 8: Ch 1, (puff, ch 1, skip next st); repeat around, join. (32 puffs, 32 ch-1)

Rd 9: Repeat round 4. (64 sc)

Rd 10: [WS] Repeat round 5. (64 flo hdc clusters, 64 ch-1)

Rd 11: [RS] Repeat round 6. (64 hdc clusters, 64 ch-1)

Rd 12: Repeat round 7. (128 sc)

Rd 13: Repeat round 8. (64 puffs, 64 ch-1)

Rd 14: Repeat round 4. (128 sc)

Rd 15: [WS] Ch 1, turn, (hdc2tog flo, ch 2); repeat around, join. (64 flo hdc2tog, 64 ch-2)

Rd 16: [RS] Ch 1, turn, (hdc cluster, ch 2); repeat around, join. (64 hdc clusters, 64 ch-2)

Rd 17: Ch 1, (crab st in hdc cluster, crab sts in next ch-1 sp); repeat around, join.  (128)

Alternatively for Rd 17: Ch 1, sc in each hdc cluster and ch-1 sp around, join. (128)
