Velvet Teddy Lovey

The Velvet Teddy Lovey is a fun amigurumi granny stitch mash-up that is both adorable and snuggly for those little ones in your life! This advanced beginner project is made with worsted velvet yarn which makes it snuggly soft to the touch.

Yarn: 140 yards (4) velvet yarn
4 mm hook – head, snout, ears, arms
5 mm hook – granny lovey square
Polyfill stuffing
8-10 mm Safety eyes x 2
10 mm Safety nose x 1
Embroidery thread
Scissors
Needle

Before You Start
Head, snout, ears, and arms worked in continuous rounds.
Lovey worked in joined rounds.
Ch 1 does not count as a stitch.
Stitches within brackets ( ) to be completed by number of times designated after the brackets
Stitches within brackets [ ] to be repeated by number of times designated after the brackets

Special Stitches

Dc3tog (double crochet three together: Working over three stitches (yo, insert hook into next st, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through two loops) 3 times then, yo, pull through remaining 4 loops on hook.

Pattern Instructions

Arms (make 2)

Rd 1: 10 sc into MC (10).

Rds 2-7: Sc around (10).

Rd 8: (dec, sc next 3) twice (8).

Rds 9-10: Sc in each st around (8).

*Stuff arm and pinch the opening flat and work 4 sl sts across, ending with a sl st.

*Fasten off, leaving a long tail for attaching to head.

Ears (make 2) [Do not stuff]

Rd 1: 5 sc into MC (5).

Rd 2: Inc x 5 around (10).

Rd 3: (sc, inc) x 5 around (15).

Rd 4: Sc in each st around (15).

Rd 5: (sc, dec) x 5 around (10).

*Fasten off, leaving a long tail for attaching to head.

Snout (make 1) [Do Not Stuff]

Ch 5

Rd 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 2 chs, 2 sc next ch, turn, working on opposite side, sc next 3 chs, 2 sc last ch, join with sl st to 1st sc (10).

Rd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st around (20).

Rd 3: Ch 1, sc in each st around (20).

*Fasten off, leaving a long tail form sewing onto head.

*Embroider or attach safety nose between rounds 1 and 2 of snout.

Head

Rd 1: 8 sc in MC (8).

Rd 2: Inc x 8 around (16).

Rd 3: (Sc, inc) x 8 around (24).

Rd 4: (2 sc, inc) x 8 around (32).

Rd 5: (3 sc, inc) x 8 around (40).

Rd 6-13: Sc in each st around (40).

*Place eyes between rds 9 & 10, about 5 sts apart.

*Using a needle, sew the snout just below the eyes by weaving up and down around the last round.

Add a small amount of stuffing as you sew the snout on.

*Using a needle, sew the ears with a whipstitch to the head, counting from the center of the head four rounds down, between rounds 4-8.

Rd 14: (3 sc, dec) x 8 around (32).

Rd 15: Sc around (32).

*Begin stuffing head.

Rd 16: (2 sc, dec) x 8 around (24).

Rd 17: Sc around (24)

Rd 18: (sc, dec) x 8 around (16)

*Add remaining stuffing as you work the next two rounds.

Rd 19: Sc around (16)

Rd 20: dec x 8 (8)

*Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing onto lovey. 

*Using a needle, whipstitch through the stitches from round 20 and pull to close the opening.

*Using a needle, sew the arms with a whipstitch on round 18, just behind or in line with the ears.

*Continue to Lovey Instructions.

Lovey

Rd 1: Start with a MC, ch 3 (counts as a dc and ch 1), work (dc, ch 1) x7 into MC. Join to ch 3. (8 dc, 8 ch-1).

Rd 2: Sl st into ch-1 sp, ch 3, 2 dc into ch-1 sp, skip st, [ch 3, (3 dc in ch-1 sp, skip st) twice]. Repeat from [ ] twice. Ch 3, join to beginning ch 3. (24 dc, 4 ch-3)

Rd 3: Ch 3, dc2tog (counts as dc3tog), ch 3, dc3tog, [(ch 3, dc3tog) twice into ch-3 sp, (ch 3, dc3tog) twice across] repeat from [ ] twice. (Ch 3, dc3tog) twice into last ch-3 sp, ch 3, join to 1st dc3tog. (16 dc3tog, 16 ch-3)

Rd 4: Sl st into ch-3 sp, ch 3, 2 dc into ch-3 sp, ch 1, 3 dc into next ch-3 sp, [ch 1, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) into corner ch 3 sp, (ch 1, 3 dc into next ch- 3 sp) 3 times], repeat from [ ] twice, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) into corner ch-3 sp, (ch 1, 3 dc into ch-3 sp), ch 1, join to top of beginning ch 3. (60 dc, 16 ch-1, 4 ch-3).

Rd 5: Ch 3, dc2tog (counts as dc3tog), (ch 3, dc3tog) twice, [(ch 3, dc3tog) twice into corner ch-3 sp, (ch 3, dc3tog) 5 times across] repeat from [ ] twice. Ch 3, dc3tog twice in last corner ch-3 sp, (ch 3, dc3tog) twice, ch 3, join to 1st dc3tog. (28 dc3tog, 28 ch-3).

Rd 6: Sl st into ch-3 sp, ch 3, 2 dc into ch-3 sp, (ch 1, 3 dc into next ch-3 sp) twice, [ch 1, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) into corner ch 3 sp, (ch 1, 3 dc into next ch- 3 sp) 6 times], repeat from [ ] twice, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) into corner ch-3 sp, (ch 1, 3 dc into next ch-3 sp) 3 times, ch 1, join to top of beginning ch 3. (96dc, 28 ch-1, 4 ch-3).

Rd 7: Ch 3, dc2tog (counts as dc3tog), (ch 3, dc3tog) three times, [(ch 3, dc3tog) twice into ch-3 sp, (ch 3, dc3tog) 8 times across] repeat from [ ] twice. Ch 3, dc3tog twice in last ch-3 sp, ( ch 3, dc3tog) 4 times, ch 3, join to 1st dc3tog. (40 dc3tog,40 ch-3).

Rd 8: Sl st into ch-3 sp,  ch 3, 2 dc into ch-3 sp, (ch 1, 3 dc into next ch-3 sp) 3 times, [ch 1, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) into corner ch 3 sp, (ch 1, 3 dc into next ch- 3 sp) 9 times], repeat from [ ] twice, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) into corner ch-3 sp, (ch 1, 3 dc into next ch-3 sp) 5 times, ch 1, join to top of beginning ch 3. (132 dc, 40 ch-1, 4 ch-3).

Rd 9: Ch 3, dc2tog (counts as dc3tog), (ch 3, dc3tog) 4 times, [(ch 3, dc3tog) twice into corner ch-3 sp, (ch 3, dc3tog) 11 times] repeat from [ ] twice. Ch 3, dc3tog twice in last cornerch-3 sp, (ch 3, dc3tog) 6 times, ch 3, join to 1st dc3tog. (52 dc3tog, 52 ch-3).

Rd 10: Sl st in ch-3 sp, ch 3, 2 dc into ch-3 sp, (ch 1, 3 dc into next ch-3 sp) 4 times, [(3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) into corner ch 3 sp, (ch 1, 3 dc into next ch- 3 sp) 12 times], repeat from [ ] twice, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) into corner ch-3 sp, (ch 1, 3 dc into next ch-3 sp) 7 times, ch 1, join to top of beginning ch 3. (168 dc, 52 ch-1, 4 ch-3).

Fasten off and weave in ends.

*Using a needle, attach head to center of lovey square.  Thread needle through center of lovey, then weave back and forth around round 1 of lovey and round 19 of head.  Fasten off and weave in end.
