How many times do you find yourself truly connecting with someone? You become friends and can pick up where you left off, even when time seems to speed up between visits.
My husband and I had the pleasure of meeting such an amazing soul when we lived in our country home in Tamassee, SC. Joe Vaughan was a gentle soul with such enthusiasm for life that his cheerfulness rubbed off onto everyone he was around. He taught my husband and I how to live sustainably, laugh often and enjoy each day that God gave us.
Fast forward many years as we all moved to different cities, several thousand miles away. We brought our children to visit Joe and his wife Carolyn, we shared small moments of our lives from a distance and we all grew older.
This past July, Joe Vaughan passed away after a lengthy but graceful battle with lung cancer and Alzheimer’s at the ripe old age of 89.

Many of you may remember my Crossroads Beanie pattern that I released this past March. As I was brainstorming designs that would be perfect for bringing comfort for individuals battling with cancer, I kept coming back to my Crossroads Beanie.
The Oxford dictionary defines crossroads as a point at which a crucial decision must be made that will have far-reaching consequences. I feel that individuals battling with cancer are forced to stand at a tremendously arduous crossroads.
As you crochet your Crossroads Beanies, pray over them that the recipient will find peace as they battle cancer and gift them to someone in your life, keeping them warm as they come to their daily crossroads.

Today, I am dedicating my Crossroads Beanie to Joe Vaughan’s legacy!
