Begin with color A
Row 1: ch 5, 1 dc in the 3rd ch from the hook (this will create a space to crochet into later), 1 dc
in each of the next 2 ch sts. (the first shell group).

shell group to allow you to work into the space create by the 2 skipped ch sts in previous row.
