Crossroads Clusters Placemat

Introducing the Crossroads Clusters Placemat, a lovely companion to the Crossroads Clusters Washcloth pattern in my Crossroads Clusters Series. Yes, there is even more Tunisian crochet coming to your inbox this year! 

Like my Crossroads Clusters Washcloth pattern I released in January, the Crossroads Clusters Placemat is an advanced beginner crochet pattern that features the Linked Tunisian Simple Stitch. If you are not familiar with this stitch, you will find my Link Stitch Tutorial on my blog helpful as you crochet your Crossroads Clusters Placemat.

MATERIALS
Worsted weight cotton yarn
Yardage: 160-180 yards
6 mm hook
Scissors
Needle

PATTERN NOTES

  • Advanced beginner
  • Written in US crochet terms
  • Gauge: 7 sts and rows 1-5 = 2”
  • Finished Size: 12” x 16.5”

BEFORE YOU START

  • Pattern is crocheted in rows
  • Ch 1 does not count as a stitch
  • Ch 3 does count as a stitch

SPECIAL STITCHES

  • HDC Cluster – YO and insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop. YO and insert your hook into the next ch/st, YO and pull up a loop. YO and pull through all five loops on your hook.

PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS

Ch 41 or alternatively fsc 40 and skip row 1, turn.

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across, turn. (40 sc)

Row 2-4: ch 6, link stitch in each st across, turn. (40 link stitches) [See Photo Tutorial]

Row 5: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (40 sc)

Row 6: ch 3, *skip st, dc next st, dc skipped st, repeat from * across, dc last st, turn. (19 crosses, 40 dc)

Row 7: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (14 sc)

Rows 8-19: Repeat rows 6 & 7 (6 times).

Rows 20-22: Repeat rows 2-4 once.

Row 23: Repeat row 5.

Do not fasten off. Continue to border.

Border

Working on the right side.

Side 1: Ch 1, (hdc cluster, ch 1) 19 times, hdc cluster, ch 3, rotate.

Side 2: (hdc cluster, ch 1) 29 times, hdc cluster, ch 3, rotate.

Side 3: (hdc cluster, ch 1) 19 times, hdc cluster, ch 3, rotate.

Side 4: (hdc cluster, ch 1) 29 times, hdc cluster, ch 3, rotate, join to 1st hdc cluster.

Fasten off. Weave in ends.
